Icon Guide:
Solid Edge Origin
Written By Alistar Dean

While Solid Edge is one of the easier CAD packages to learn, for the new user, unfamiliar to such systems, the bewildering array of icons and commands may well be somewhat confusing. Below is a small table which tells you what each icon in the main modelling toolbar does (found to the left-hand side of the screen)

select: use this to select any profile entities, features, edges, faces, etc in the modelling window.
sketch : A sketch is a purely 2D entity stored within the 3D enviironment, which can be used as a basis on which to create 3D feature.
extrude: this uses profile extruded along a linear path along which to create a feature
revolve: this requires a closed profile and axis of rotation around which to create the part. Similar to turning parts
cut (extrude): this create a cut in a part using a porfile and a linear path (almost opposite of an extruded feature)
cut (revolve): this removes material using a closed profile reolved around a centre axis
hole creation wizard: Using this tool you create plain, counter bored/sunk and counter drilled holes - either imperial or metric. Threads can also be applied.
draft angle: this tilts an existing part face to a specified angle relative to a reference plane.
round/fillet: this creates a rounded or chamfered edge to the selected face or edge
pattern (polar and array): this creates a number of copies of a feature according to circular, rectangular or mirrored arrangement
mirror: creates an associative copy of a part using an central axis
shelling / thin walling: This create a thin walled part from existing geometry according to a specified thickness of particular faces and surface.
